30 Invitational Speech Topics

Invitational speech topics for public speaking and how to deliver such speech topics. In an invitational you enter into a dialogue with your listeners. It's a special form of presenting a speech topic to persuade.

The public speaker shares his or her ideas, beliefs and values at for example an invitational tournament. It is not necessary to convince the audience to agree with your point of view. No, the main goal of an invitational actually is to discuss and explore the main points in a vivid dialogue. Respect is the keyword, respect for each argument or view of eachother. Here are two tips to deliver an invitational speech topic. I can recommend these two ways:

  1. Take A Side
You can choose to take a side and explain why, by discussing your arguments in favor of the topic of your choice. Than you ask the audience questions. Ask for their opinions. Let them explain theirs. Reply contra arguments honestly and polite. Discuss. Ask them to understand your ideas. Don't persuade them to agree with you.
  2. Explore A Hot Topic
Another form of invitational public speaking is informing the listeners on the different aspects of an issue. Give all facts, figures, background information and pros and contras. Help them to understand all ins and outs. Ask them questions, let them ask you questions. Be the guide in a - what I call - joint-thinking-sharing process.
Here is a list of speech topics you can use as invitational speech topics:

Airline Safety
Animal Testing
Arms Trade

Many people who are looking for invitational speech topics or other public speaking topics are well aware of the circumstances. They don't expect to reach any agreement, but they are able to achieve appreciation. That is their major goal. In simple words: not really persuading, but understanding and exploring the different aspects and viewpoints. That's the ultimate purpose of invitational speech topics.
