My Tip on Writing a Public Speech

by Tazmin
(Ontario)

One of the tips that i would like to share is that in the beginning of every speech. YOU MUST, do an outline, not just any outline, on that seperates all your ideas and organizing them, once you do this, your WHOLE speech is practicly done! ( this is the hardest part though):

Subject : Facebook

1 Main Idea: what you can do

-sub idea:games
-sub idea:quizes
-sub idea:application

2 Main Idea: dangers of facebook

-sub : too much information
-sub : posting pictures
-sub : connecting with strange people

.. and so on until 3!

My french teacher taught me this! it really helped

Effective Speechwriting
by: Andre

My tip on writing a public speech is this little mantra: tell them, show them, and involve them!
Tell you audience what you are going to tell. Then show them your arguments and pros and cons. And close by involving them in the discussion about the speech topics by asking questions. Writing a speech with this simple template could be fun and helps you to communicate your message loud and clear.

An nice equivalent of this theory is this: Don't tell them, but show them! Often used in persuasive speeches by professional public speakers. Their message is simple: to persuade by showing their truth and valid arguments.

Another version is:Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, tell them what you told them. The Greek philosopher Aristotles is the founder of this scheme. All others are losely based on this template.

Aristotle
by: Jim (admin)

@Andre: thanks for your speech topics comment. Aristotle has 'invented' the classic three appeals of Ethos, Pathos and Logos - on credibility, emotion and logic reasoning. Many famous speeches are inspired by this framework from the ancient Greek world. Especially the persuasion talks by great leaders. Tip: when you are writing a speech try to check if your speech topics arguments and proof contain enough Ethos, Pathos and Logos. If you succeed in fulfilling this rule of three, than you have written a winner talk. Try to be aware of these elements in your delivery too. And in the Question and Answer feedback session afterwards.
